T. S. A - Definition:

Technical School for adolescents with Autism (TSA) is a technical school with the objective to integrate the autistic teenagers in the social and professional life.

We train them to be able to become active members in the community, each one depending on his skills and capacities.

  • This school has started by the Lebanese Autism Society (LAS) in 2006-2007, at its centre of diagnostics and Early intervention (CDIP);
    Then, since Septembre 2007, the TSA  was relocated at the Collège du sacré-cœur (Gemmayzeh).
     

  • This project has started with five teenagers (four boys and one girl), between 13 and 18 years, taken in charge by a multi-disciplinary team.

This pioneer project in Social, School and Professional Integration for teenagers with Autism  would enable them to have:

  • Better Quality of life

  • Better Communication and Interaction

  • Better employability

So, this will enable them a better psychological and emotional evolution at all levels.

1-Team

This pioneer project is managed by several professional care givers:

  • One coordinator

  • One responsible of pedagogical education

2-Programs

This project aims the application of 2 main programs IEP and IPP:

I- An Individual Education Program IEP:

This program aims the acquiring of the following skills, depending on each one's capacities :

  • Cognitive competences, (Computers, money Concept, Time Concept..)

  • Academicals' education: Languages (French, Arabic,  English), Mathematics..

  • Social interaction with other teenagers:
    Social routines, social standards, medical care, purchasing process, sexual education

  • Gross motor skills (Sports, Body Language and  relaxation)

  • Fine motor skills (fine art, painting),

  • Autonomy:
    Personal hygiene, Eating autonomy..

II- Individual Professional Program (IPP):

This program aims the pre-professional  integration of  the teenagers with autism in the community. It includes several sheltered and pre-professional workshops, as well as several trainings.

Each adolescent has his own Professional program (IPP), depending on his abilities and skills.

  • The sheltered  workshops aim the adaptation towards the daily life skills:

    • Cooking,

    • Gardening,

    • Electronics...
       

  • The pre professional workshops aim the acquiring of professional and technical skills:
     
    • Chocolate,

    • Carpentry,

    • Candles,

    • Beads...
       

  • The pre professional workshops aim the acquiring of professional and technical skills:
     

    As for the trainings, the educators guide the adolescents through the places of professional integration, like: Kitchen, Theatre, Plastic art...

These two programs IEP and IPP are prepared and planned at the beginning of each academic year, depending on each autistic teenagers needs and capacities. By the end of each trimester, they will be evaluated by the professionals team depending on the acquisition of the main objectives.
