Classes for Children with Autism
Beirut - Lebanon
for the Academic year
2008-2009
Introduction
In the year 2000, the LAS started a pioneer project: Integration of children with autism in a regular school (Lycée Abd-el-Kader, Hariri-foundation, Beirut-Lebanon). The project began with 3 children, in a special class where they were prepared to be included in a mainstream classroom, at the school. Since then, the project has evolved. And, in scholar year 2007-2008, the CCA is relocated at the Collège du Sacré-Coeur, Gemmayzeh, with 13 students.
The 13 students at CCA, for the academic year 2007-2008 are divided in two specialized classes, depending on their age and their abilities:
CCA has 17 persons in his multidisciplinary team for the academic year 2007/2008:
-The Administration: One Director with an administrative Assistant.
-The educational team:
One coordinator,
One integration coordinator,
One psychologist,
One special educator,
One psychomotor-therapist,
One Speech-therapist,
5 Educators,
4 Shadow-teachers.
The CCA students benefit from a specialized multi-disciplinary intervention
The IEP (Individual Educational program) is set at the beginning of each academical year, as guideline of the work with the children. They get specialized sessions in: speech therapy, psychomotor therapy and special education therapy.
Plus, they benefit from the school integration in the classes of the Collège du Sacré-Coeur, which is scheduled for each child, depending on its capacities.
Knowing that no academic integration is provided unless the student is ready to respect the regular classroom requirements.
