Since 2002, Autism Sunday is held annually on the second Sunday of February. It is also known as the International Day of Prayer for Autism and Asperger's Syndrome.

Autism Sunday 2009: Feb 8th 2009, Please pray for Autism !

 

Cathedrals, churches and religious organizations have been urged to observe Autism Sunday 2009 to pray for over 60 million people with autism. 1 in 150 children are on the autism spectrum.

 

Autism Sunday 2002 Service at St.Paul's Cathedral

The first ever Service for Autism was held in February 2002 (Autism Awareness Year, UK) at St Paul's Cathedral in London. Former Education Ministers of Her Majesty's Government, peers from the House of Lords, celebrities, writers, broadcasters, the media, joined children and people at St. Paul's Cathedral to pray for parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Autism Sunday was featured on BBC News and ITV News. It was also mentioned in the Royal Court Pages of The Times when it was first observed during 2002 Autism Awareness Year in the UK

 
  • In a message from the Vatican, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has invoked God’s blessings of strength and peace on the Autism Community on Autism Sunday.
     
  • US Campaigners are calling on President Barack Obama to speak up on autism on Autism Sunday.
    The White House website for the first time has highlighted autism issues.
     
  • OPEN EVERY DOOR’ THE SONG FOR AUTISM HAS BEEN RE-RELEASED FOR AUTISM SUNDAY 2009.
    It's a moving song for autism sung by Gresha Schuilling and written by Nimal Mendis.
    The song can be downloaded from iTunes.
     
  • The Rt.Reverend Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London in the United Kingdom has extended his support for Autism Sunday. Rt.Reverend John Sentamu, Archbishop of York has also sent his blessings.
     
  • Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, California who was chosen by US President Barack Obama to lead the invocation at his inauguration in Washington DC said he applauded the efforts of British autism campaigners Ivan and Charika Corea to raise efforts of both Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. Saddleback Church is one of the largest churches in the United States and they will be praying for 60 million people worldwide who have Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome. Saddleback Church also hopes that Autism Sunday - the International Day of Prayer for Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome will be a huge success.

Ministers, parliamentarians and dignitaries are attending an Autism Sunday Service in the London Borough of Redbridge in the United Kingdom at All Saints Church in Woodford Wells at 11.15 am on 8th February.
 

Autism campaigners are urging people to use Autism Sunday as a platform to lobby and campaign on the serious education and health issues surrounding autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
